Avalon had to go to the V-E-T today. After we played at McInnis Park with the grandkids, Avalon sneezed about 100 times and coughed like she was gonna upchuck or something. Momma was quite alarmed and we all packed up and went over to Dr. Bill. He wanted her to stay there until he could really give her the once-over. I told her not to get anxious - that Dr. B. was totally cool in all ways. We went on about our day, but Momma was watchin' the phone.
Finally... around 4:30, we found out that Avalon had "inhaled" some vegetative matters (plants that grow above ground) up her right nostril and it had made her nose interiors very raw and also her tonsils, poor pupper. We piled into the Sammiemobile and raced over to get her. This is the vet tech, Vickie with Ava.
We are supposed to keep her quiet (ha ha ha) for a week or so, but that isn't working out too well. To get the "vegitative matter" out, Dr. Bill used a saline solution. Avalon's poor eyes and right side (of her face) are very tender. We wish she would sleep, but she would really like to get outside and play, making noises to indicate this.
Here's Avalon with a smile that displays her resilience! Hopefully, with her Benadryl-like medicine, she'll be better totally soon! Friends all: CAREFUL of all "vegetative matters" and especially foxtails that are out there in force!!!

Hi Y'all,

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Poor Avalon! I hope she feels better soon.
Your pal, Pip
So glad that Avalon is going to be ok. That was probably pretty scary.
Give her an extra hug for us.
Bert
Poor Avalon!
I am sure she will be like new in no time!
Take care
Kisses and hugs

Vegetation up her nose? That sounds very uncomfortable! But you pets in that house are tough... as little Ozzie proved to us! Avalon will be good as new soon. :D
Oh, poor Avalon! I am very sorry to hear about your snooter troubles. I sure wish I knew why it was so easy to get things in there that shouldn't be! Get lots of rest and follow the doctor's orders. This will probably score you a couple of extra cookies on a regular basis, so milk it for all it's worth!

Oh, those darned nose things! I hope Avalon feels real better real soon!
Avalon . That vegetative matter can be a real pain !
Poor pup! I don't think I've ever encountered vegetative stuff before. I hope she feels better soon. BTW, did my hoomie Melissa ever mention that Avalon has very pretty feet! Yes, she has this thing with good feet on Goldens. My feet aren't as pretty as hers (they aren't bad either) so she has to make them look pretty by trimming them in such a way. She's good at hiding faults. TEE HEE
How uncomfortable for you, Avalon! We hope you're back to 100% in no time at all!
Love ya lots
Maggie and Mitch
Oh no! Hope you're feeling much better real soon.
Gotta stop snorting the vegetative stuff, A!!
That happened to me once when I was a pup. At least I guess that's what it was 'cuz I sneezed my fool head off about a bazillion times after a run in the fields. I sneezed so hard my nose bounced offa the floor! I finally stopped and it never happened again, thank goodness! I'm glad it wasn't anythin' worse for Avalon.
Woofs and sneezy slobbers,
Chester ;0=)
Oh Sammie... Poor Avalon is gonna need fur YOU to do all the Sniffin fur a while.
I am soooooo sorry that this happened to her. Keep us posted.
My Grandpa Angus the Airedale once inhaled a stick. You need to be careful where you stick your snooter.
Slobbers,
Mango
Poor Avalon. Those foxtails can be really nasty. We hope her meds make her feel much better very soon. We know how tough it can be to keep an active pup down. Mom has a niece who once put a pussy willow bud up her nose and had to have quite the procedure performed to remove it - silly girl.
Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Us Golden Retrievers just have to sniff everything - but sometimes we sniff too hard. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Woofs,
Riley
I see Ava is already recuperating amid a flurry of treats and hugs! Hope that vegetative matter stays where it belongs (on the ground).
We know about the vegetative matters here but thankfully it's never been anything like this!! Hope you're continuing to feel better, and you and your family are having a good weekend!!
So glad she will be ok!

Poor Avalon! What a strange thing to happen, get well soon!
Hi Y'all!

Y'all come by now,

Hope Avalon is feeling better!
Poor girl. Good thing your Momma was quick thinking!
Sam
Poor Avalon! When we lived in your area, one of my dogs was a search and rescue dog - the kind that goes galloping through grassy open space searching for lost people. She got foxtails up her nose, in her ears, and in other unmentionable orifaces. So, we can sympathize. We hope that Avalon feels better very soon.
What a nice smile!
How scary! We're sure glad your mom took you to your vet! Please feel better!
Luv,
Dave
Avalon we hope you're better soon. However, you look great.
Oh the poor little dear! What a strange thing to have happened, but glad it wasn't too serious. PS In the picture at the vet's office, is someone sleeping in the background? LOL!
