Our Journey...

Think we forgot to tell you a lil bit about what sort of vacay we're on! Last September of 2011, Dad retired. He and momzers got an RV and decided to plan a trip across the country, visiting national parks on the way to Maine (where's that?) for a family reunion. That's a long trip from northern California! Anyway, this blog is now a record of our travels across the good ole U.S. of A. and even Canada - plus all the things we get to do and see! We started our journey mid-March and hope to be back in NoCal by mid-October - yeah!

Sad...

This is my pal, Terra who crossed the rainbow bridge today. She was seven years old and it was very sudden. She had hemangiosarcoma but her mom never knew a thing was wrong until a couple of weeks ago. I had just played with Terra on Saturday, along with her "sister," Shanti. Terra seemed just fine, curious and playful as always. I went to that Fun Match with Shanti on Saturday - Terra stayed behind. That's because Terra received her "OTCH" last year and was enjoying a kind of retirement. The "Obedience Trial Championship" (OTCH) title is often referred to as the "Phd" for dogs. It is the highest obedience honor a dog can receive. Mom had just taken down the OTCH plaque for Terra on Monday evening after Sammie's obedience class, for the express purpose of bringing it home - finally - to Terra's mom. It had been on the wall of the Oakland Dog Training Club for almost a year. We delivered it on our way home.
Then... the news tonight. My dad and mom and I are stunned and extremely sad. I found a poem that I'd like to share.
They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.
In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.
Terra - you were the second Golden my parents ever met. Even the grandpeep remembers you fondly, recalling your amazing "tricks" and spirit. You helped my parents and I meet through Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue. Terra; you will never be forgotten.

We are so sorry to hear that Terra has passed. A friend of ours also had a dog with hemangiosarcoma so we understand how sudden and tragic that it can be.

We'll light a candle for Terra tonight.

Please convey our sympathies to Terra's family.

What a way for me to start my morning...in tears. In 1997 I lost my beloved Tony to hemangiosarcoma. In less than 12 hours my heart was broken. I'll never forget the pain.

I am so, so sorry that this rotten disease took the life of another beautiful dog. There is never a good time to lose someone you love...a thousand years is too soon. Please pass on my very sincere condolences.
